Privacy notice
Last updated: September 2026
Privacy here is by design, not by afterthought. This site collects as little as possible: your email address if you subscribe, and whatever you choose to send us if you write to us.
What we collect
- Your email address - only if you choose to subscribe to the newsletter.
- Your message - only if you use the Contact form: the message itself, your email address, and your name.
- Basic server logs (e.g. IP address, browser, page requested) kept briefly by the host for security and to keep the site running. These are standard web-server logs, not used to profile you.
- Anonymous visit counts - see "Website analytics" below.
There is no third-party advertising tracker on this site. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not track you across other sites.
Website analytics
We run our own simple, cookieless visit counter - no analytics service like Google Analytics, and nothing is shared with an advertiser. It records, per day: how many pages were viewed, an approximate count of separate visitors, which pages were viewed and roughly how long a page stayed open, your country (see below), and whether the "Designed and built by" link in the footer was clicked.
No cookie is set for this, or for anything else on the public site. A visitor is recognised only for the day itself, from a one-way scrambled (hashed) mix of their IP address and browser, generated fresh every day - the list is thrown away at midnight Vietnam time, so we cannot tell that the same person visited on two different days, and the IP address itself is never written down. If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control", the time-on-page and link-click parts are switched off for you automatically.
If you use the site search, we keep the words you searched for and how many results there were, so we can see what readers look for and what the site is missing. This is not linked to your IP address, your visit or any identifier. Words are kept for 90 days, and the admin report shows only words searched more than once. Anything that looks like an email address, a link or a long number is discarded, so please do not type personal details into the search box. The same Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control rule applies.
Your country is looked up from your IP address at the moment of your visit, using the free service ip-api.com - only the two-letter country code is kept; your IP address is not stored by us before or after that lookup. This can be turned off entirely in the site's admin area, in which case no country is recorded at all.
This is aggregate, internal traffic reporting only - to understand roughly how many people visit and which pages are read - not advertising, not profiling, and not shared with anyone outside this site.
Why we collect it
Your email is used for one thing: to send you the monthly newsletter you asked for. A message sent through the Contact form is used only to read it and, if it needs one, reply. That’s it - no unrelated messages, no selling. The anonymous visit counts are used only to see roughly how many people read the site and which pages are useful - not to identify or profile any one visitor.
Consent & double opt-in
Subscribing uses double opt-in: after you enter your email you’ll get a confirmation message, and you’re only added once you confirm. Our lawful basis (GDPR) is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. The anonymous visit counter runs on a different basis - legitimate interest in understanding basic site traffic - since it identifies no one and asks nothing of you; see "Website analytics" above.
Unsubscribing
Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email jayden (at) digitalhealthdesign.org and we’ll remove you. Unsubscribing is as easy as subscribing.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you (your email address and any message you sent us). Under the GDPR and the Australian Privacy Principles you also have the right to withdraw consent and to complain to a regulator. To exercise any of these, email jayden (at) digitalhealthdesign.org.
How long we keep it
We keep your email only while you’re subscribed. When you unsubscribe, it is removed from the active list. A Contact message is kept until it has been answered and is no longer needed, then deleted. Day-by-day visit totals (views, visitor counts, countries) are kept for a little over a year so we can see trends over time. The more detailed anonymous visit records (which pages, in what order, for how long, from which country and type of device) are kept in full for 30 days and then moved to a long-term archive, which we keep with no set end date so we can compare traffic across months and years. Those records contain no IP address and no identifier, and cannot be traced to a person.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your data. Your email is stored with the newsletter provider we use to deliver the emails; they process it on our behalf only to send the newsletter. A Contact message is stored on this site’s own server, where only the site owner can read it; we don’t share it with anyone else. For the visit counter, your IP address is sent, at the moment of your visit, to ip-api.com to look up your country - that service is not given anything else about you, and we do not store the IP address it was given.
Cookies
No tracking or advertising cookies, and no cookie for the visit counter either. The only cookie on this site is an essential session cookie used for the private admin area - it isn’t set for ordinary visitors.
Changes
If this notice changes we’ll update it here and change the date above.
